Product Description
Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 2 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 4 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 2 ohm load.
Square Design: By making the Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (or Sd) for a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional subwoofer. More cone area means the Solo-Baric L7 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper bass.
Cone Materials: An aluminum deposit impregnated cone is used resulting in greater rigidity for less cone flex and less distortion. In addition, the cone is also very resistant to environmental extremes. A rear cone brace provides added strength and reduces cone flex under stress.
Surround: The tough, flexible santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The corners of the surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible.
Inverted Structural Dome: The Inverted Structural Dome replaces a conventional dustcap and locks into the cone for unmatched structural integrity and greatly reduced cone flexing/resonance.
Patented Enhanced BAM (Basket And Motor) Assembly: The cast aluminum basket features a low profile, open design to provide a solid anti-resonant foundation for the motor assembly.
Spider: The durable resin-impregnated poly-cotton spider provides precise coil alignment and critical cone motion control.
Voice Coil: The multi-layer voice coil and Kapton former create a superior magnetic field and effectively dissipate heat.
Chromed UniPlate Construction: The UniPlate construction combines the backplate and extended pole piece into a single unit to maximize magnetic efficiency and minimize alignment problems often caused by two-piece construction. The bottom of the UniPlate is chromed to provide enhanced heat transfer for cool operation and maximum power handling.
Bumped Back Plate: The deep bumped back plate lets the voice coil reach maximum excursion without bottoming-out.
Perimeter Venting: The perimeter venting cooling system continuously pumps hot air away from the voice coil, replacing it with cool outside air.
Gaskets: The one piece front beauty ring and separate one-piece rear gasket insure an airtight seal and provide enhanced cosmetics.
Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet from chipping or breaking during installation.
Tinsel Leads: The speaker features sleeved high-power tinsel lead wires to resist breakage and power-robbing resistance losses.
Speaker Terminals: The terminals are spring loaded and nickel-plated for solid connections with speaker wire up to 11 gauge.
Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric L7 speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff "out-of-the-box". Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A "broken-in" subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.
Enclosure Compatibility
Power Handling: When the subwoofer is mounted in a sealed enclosure that has a volume from 1.50 cu/ft to 6.0 cu/ft, the woofer can handle up to 1000 watts RMS. .
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: When mounted in a sealed enclosure, the woofer delivers massive amounts of high-impact bass and can be driven with punishing levels of amplifier power.
Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 1.50 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 1000 watts RMS SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 6.0 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 1000 watts RMS
Note: The power handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter (sold separately) is used with this woofer; if a subsonic filter is not used, the power rating will decrease and excessive port noise can occur.
Cutout: The woofer will not mount in a standard enclosure with a round cutout. Instead, the woofer must be mounted in an enclosure with a 14.0625" x 14.0625" square opening. Four generations of research, revisions, and resilience – and now the one that started it all emerges as wicked as ever. The legendary Solo-Baric L7 Subwoofer maintains the throne as the first and foremost authority on bass. Square? You bet! KICKER wrote the book on it, and then patented it. Solo-Baric is the only patented square subwoofer on Earth – more cone, more air, more decibels! Available in punishing 8-, 10-, 12-, and 15-inch models, the Solo-Baric L7 utilizes the one-piece, injection-molded SoloKon™, a reinforced cone that provides 16 to 20 percent more area than a same-sized cone on a round sub. The Solo-Baric’s expansive cone area moves more air than the round one, therefore making it louder. KICKER’s knack for extraordinary bass is evident. The L7 motor structure contains dual high-temp voice coils, a poly-cotton semi-progressive spider (two in the colossal S15L7!), jacketed braided tinsel leads, highly-efficient UniPlate™ pole piece/back plate, and a heat-reducing T-cut top plate for outstanding toughness and enormous power handling. The cast aluminum basket yields a super-sealing, rear foam gasket and spring-loaded terminals. A shielding front gasket helps to protect the wide Santoprene® surround. The Solo-Baric L7 is available in 2-Ohm or 4-Ohm DVC and hammers in a sealed or vented box application.Size (IN., CM): 12, 30.5 Impedance: Dual 2-ohms (can be wired as 1-ohms or 4-ohms) Cone Material: Mica-filled poly/Alum dep Surround Material: Santoprene rubber Sealed Box Volume (cu ft) 0.88 - 2 Ported Box Volume (cu ft) 1.75 - 3.25 Dual Voice Coil Sensitivity 87.4dB Frequency Response 20-100 Hz RMS Power Range (Watts) 100-750 Peak Power Handling (Watts) 1500 Top Mount Depth (inches) 6-13/16 Cutout Diameter or Length (inches) 11-3/16
